Eugenia Shmidt, MD, is Co-Director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Program at the University of Minnesota, where she has a special interest in sexual function, fertility, and pregnancy. At the University of Minnesota, Dr. Shmidt founded a multidisciplinary clinic with maternal-fetal specialists to counsel women with IBD regarding pregnancy. Her passion is educating women with IBD about all aspects of preconception and pregnancy, including the safety of IBD medications leading up to and during pregnancy, control of IBD activity and impact on pregnancy, pregnancy outcomes of the baby, delivery options, breastfeeding, and newborn care. Dr. Shmidt also serves as a writing member of the American Gastroenterological Association Guideline Committee on the medical management of moderate-to-severe Crohn’s disease.
