Overview

The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation 2022 Midwest Regional Professional Education Program is a continuing education program intended for physicians, registered nurses, and advanced practice providers involved in the care of patients with inflammatory bowel disease.  The proposed curriculum will address the most pressing clinical dilemmas in IBD today, as delivered by national faculty, and will draw community clinician audiences from Minnesota, and throughout Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin, and the general region. The program will include a combined session, followed by discipline specific breakouts for physicians and nurses/advanced practice providers.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, learners should be able to:

  1. Differentiate between the mechanisms of action, safety, and efficacy of current FDA approved therapies for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis and consider when surgery should be an option.
  2. Formulate individualized treatment plans for patients of different ages, genders, and understand the special needs of vulnerable populations.
  3. Describe the novel mechanisms of action in current experimental therapies for IBD in approved clinical trials.
  4. Identify important health care screenings that pertain to patients with inflammatory bowel disease.
