Course Description: As a part of the Pediatric Grand Rounds Series, Dr. Heather Van Mater, Associate Professor & Chief of Pediatric Rheumatology at Duke University, presented her talk "Exploring Pediatric Autoimmune Brain Disease: Challenges in Diagnosis and Treatment" for the University of Minnesota Department of Pediatrics Grand Rounds Session on 12/14/22.

Course Structure: The steps to complete this course and receive a Certificate of Participation are:

1. Recognize that sickle cell disease is a health disparities condition in the US.
2. Appreciate autoimmune brain diseases are rare and list the more common causes of new onset neuropsychiatric symptoms.
3. Outline the rationale for the treatments used in autoimmune brain diseases and how differences in onset of action impact expected clinical response time.
