Overview

This conference is planned and hosted by The Center for Learning Health System Sciences (CLHSS).  For more information visit their webpage here.

A learning health system (LHS), as defined by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and the National Academy of Medicine, is a health system in which internal data and experience are systematically integrated with external evidence, and that knowledge is put into practice in an iterative cycle.

The Center for Learning Health System Sciences (CLHSS) aims to gather researchers with a wide range of LHS interests for presentations, discussions, workshops, and opportunities for networking. From evidence synthesis to pragmatic clinical trials to data-driven discovery and health IT implementation, the conference will address some of the most pressing and emerging LHS topics, will highlight LHS best practices, lessons learned, and promote discussion while expanding the reach and diversity of the LHS community and activities across an LHS network.

The agenda for the two day conference includes keynote each day, sessions in the form of invited talks, panel discussions, or poster symposia, and ample networking opportunities. Key topics of interest include: digital health including artificial intelligence, clinical decision support, and electronic health record and real world data; implementation science, patient and community engagement; practice-based research; and pragmatic and cluster randomized trials.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, learners should be able to:

  1. Examine successful examples of learning health system research and their impact on patient outcomes, provider burden and/or healthcare costs.
  2. Evaluate the barriers and facilitators to implementing research in learning health systems in different healthcare settings.
  3. Gain insights into strategies for fostering collaboration and communication among stakeholders in a learning health system.
  4. Discover innovative approaches for integrating research, clinical practice, and healthcare policy within a learning health system.
  5. Discuss methods for leveraging real-world data and evidence to inform clinical decision-making and quality improvement efforts.
