Honoring Elder Wisdom is a conference for Indigenous community members and providers who want to know more about Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, caretaking, healthy aging, and the resources available in northern Minnesota Indigenous communities. We will have a diverse array of speakers and panelists, including a neurologist, community researchers, caregivers, social workers, legal services, and others. This event will provide knowledge, education, and awareness about issues related to Alzheimer's Disease and related dementias, specific to Indigenous populations in Northern Minnesota.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, learners should be able to:

  1. Discuss cultural awareness of Indigenous elders and caretakers who are affected by a dementia diagnosis
  2. Describe communication strategies and techniques for better communications regarding health and wellness equity with Indigenous elder and their caregiver
  3. Explain their understanding of spiritual beliefs and how those beliefs impact dementia care and support

Registration Policies

  •  On-site registration will be allowed as space permits. All on-site registrants must use their own device to submit their registration and payment by credit card via CE Portal (cash/check not accepted).
  • Registration through CE Portal is required for all attendees.
  • Special needs, such as dietary restrictions, lactation room, etc., should be requested in advance. These requests cannot always be honored on site.
  • Registration is non-refundable. Substitutions are allowed. Contact [email protected] in the event you need to switch your registration to another individual.

Accreditation
In support of improving patient care, University of Minnesota, Interprofessional Continuing Education is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Credit Designation Statements

American Medical Association (AMA)
The University of Minnesota, Interprofessional Continuing Education designates this live activity  for a maximum of 7.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
This activity is awarded up to 7.75 ANCC contact hours.

Minnesota Board of Social Work
The University of Minnesota Office of Continuing Professional Development has been approved by the Minnesota Board of Social Work as a CE Provider. This course will provide up to 7.75 hours of continuing education.

Other Healthcare Professionals
Other healthcare professionals who participate in this CE activity may submit their certificate of participation to their appropriate accrediting organizations or state boards for consideration of credit. The participant is responsible for determining whether this activity meets the requirements for acceptable continuing education.
