Overview

Format: Live Webinar. The webinar link will be shared with registered attendees close to the conference start date.

Advanced Therapies for Pediatric Obesity is one of the most highly regarded educational activities addressing the topic of pediatric obesity. In this three ½-day course, leading experts in the field will provide the rationale for why obesity is a disease and concrete guidance on how to manage it. To support the implementation of the new AAP Clinical Practice Guideline, a main focus of this course is the use of anti-obesity medications for children and adolescents. Using cased-based sessions and break out rooms, attendees will learn how to use the newly FDA-approved medications. Application to the primary care setting will also be discussed, as well as other key topics including eating disorders in the context of obesity treatment and metabolic and bariatric surgery.

This course is planned and hosted by the Department of Pediatrics, Center for Pediatric Obesity Medicine. For questions about the course content, please contact Juanita Jensen, [email protected], 612-626-2349.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, learners should be able to:

  1. Describe the pathophysiology of obesity and the weight reduced state and apply this knowledge to treatment strategies for pediatric obesity.
  2. Explain how to conduct a comprehensive assessment of a child with obesity including identification of weight related comorbidities.
  3. Define strategies for the management of pediatric obesity including lifestyle therapy, anti-obesity medications and the role of metabolic and bariatric surgery.
