Overview

This course prepares infectious disease specialists to address the health needs of travelers, refugees, immigrants, and other mobile populations. It covers pre-travel counseling, diagnosis and management of illnesses acquired abroad, and post-travel evaluation. Participants will study the epidemiology, pathophysiology, and treatment of major tropical diseases—including parasitic, bacterial, viral, and fungal infections—with emphasis on neglected tropical diseases and malaria, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, and viral hepatitis. The course also highlights the impact of social determinants of health on disease outcomes in underserved populations, integrating clinical expertise with a global health perspective.

This course is planned and organized by the University of Minnesota, Department of Medicine Division of Global Health. If you have questions or need support during the course contact [email protected].
