The objective of this multi-disciplinary symposium will be to update and educate care team members from cardiac anesthesiology, cardiac surgery, cardiology and intensive care medicine at the University of Minnesota Medical Center on how we might best manage patients with right heart failure during the perioperative period and beyond.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, learners should be able to:

  1. Discuss current definitions by the American Heart Association, European Heart Association, and other bodies as they relate to perioperative RHF.
  2. Describe current strategies for assessing perioperative RHF in the operating room, in the intensive care unit and during the longer-term period following cardiac surgery.
  3. Review emerging strategies for assessing and managing perioperative RHF in the operating room, in the intensive care unit and during the longer-term period following cardiac surgery.
