Overview

Format: Live webinar

This activity is planned and hosted by The Center for Mind-Body Medicine. For more information please visit their webpage.

The Online Advanced Mind-body Medicine Training Program is the second step in the most complete experiential and didactic training in mind-body medicine available — anywhere. It is also the next step as we continue our commitment to working with you on your professional growth and development. This training teaches participants how to use CMBM’s mind-body medicine techniques with individuals, families, and in classrooms. Participants will also learn CMBM’s signature “Mind-Body Skills Groups,” complete with a detailed manual describing each session and discussing solutions to common issues that arise in groups. After completing the Online Advanced Mind-Body Medicine, participants can start supervision or the Certification process to further enhance their skills as they integrate our model into their work and their lives.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, learners should be able to:

  1. Define the relevance and benefits of teaching mind-body medicine skills in a small group setting.
  2. Summarize the ingredients of a mind-body skills group that support participant self-discovery, self-regulating, and self-expression.
  3. Explain and demonstrate principles that underpin how to interact with individuals (in a small group setting) that support autonomy, mutual respect, and safe self-expression.
  4. Practice skills that promote present moment awareness in self and others.
  5. Interpret why present moment awareness supports stress reduction.
  6. Evaluate the theory that a non-advising/fixing, non-diagnosing, and non-analyzing approach to working with others supports healing processes.
  7. Apply mind-body medicine skills (including mindfulness/meditation, breathing, guided imagery, and biofeedback) to oneself in a way that supports learning to teach the skills to others.
  8. Describe and apply a trauma-informed approach for leading a wellness-focused small group model.
  9. Prepare for how to be present to and support the effects of trauma in people’s lives.
  10. Integrate concepts that support a deeper understanding of working with diverse populations including adapting a small group model of mind-body medicine skills to fit the needs of various cultures.
  11. Interpret and apply six specific ground rules for a small group that support increased safety for participants.
  12. Prepare to be present to, process, and express emotions in oneself and others.
  13. Organize and present a didactic presentation on one or more evidence-based mind-body medicine approaches.
  14. Demonstrate the ability to facilitate a standardized, 2-hour long mind-body skills group.
  15. Formulate strategies for how to deal with different personalities in a group (e.g. people who are withdrawn or who talk excessively).
  16. Describe how to deal with one’s own psychological/stress/health issues in the context of leading a mind-body group.
  17. Practice managing time when leading a small group.
  18. Collect, synthesize, and integrate specific feedback on one’s performance leading a mind-body skills group.
  19. Explain how to integrate mind-body medicine into one’s own professional practice or institution, including in a way that actively addresses burnout.
  20. Identify possible ways to establish a mind-body program in one’s workplace or community setting.
