Overview

Format: Live Webinar

This activity is planned and hosted by the Minnesota Associated of Geriatrics Inspired Clinicians (MAGIC).

The Minnesota Association of Geriatrics Inspired Clinicians (MAGIC) 2021 Annual Conference will address major clinical, policy and leadership issues related to care of older adults and those in long-term care settings in Minnesota. Ashton Applewhite, internationally recognized author of This Chair Rocks: A Manifesto Against Ageism will present the keynote address. Other topics will include challenging practical issues such as sleep disturbances, diabetes, and more, what we have learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, recent changes in long-term care regulations, and self-care for professionals. In a 1/2 day workshop format, we will address equity and diversity in long-term care. This conference is intended for an inter-professional health professions audience.



Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, learners should be able to:

  1. Describe strategies to reduce discrimination based upon age, racial, ethnic, and other demographic characteristics in geriatrics care settings.
  2. Describe best practice in care of common geriatric conditions and evolving settings of long-term care.
  3. Explain how to promote policy change in organizations and government.

Accreditation
In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by University of Minnesota, Interprofessional Continuing Education and the Minnesota Association of Geriatrics Inspired Clinicians (MAGIC). University of Minnesota, Interprofessional Continuing Education is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Credit Designation Statements

American Medical Association
The University of Minnesota, Interprofessional Continuing Education designates this live activity for a maximum of 9.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Part II
Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 9.75 Medical Knowledge MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.

American Board of Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine (ABPLM) 
This CME activity has been pre-approved by the American Board of Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine (ABPLM) for a total of 8 management hours and 8.75 clinical hours toward certification as a Certified Medical Director (CMD) in post-acute and long-term care medicine. The CMD program is administered by the ABPLM.  Each physician should claim only those hours of credit actually spent on the activity. 

Minnesota Board of Social Work
The University of Minnesota Office of Continuing Professional Development has been approved by the Minnesota Board of Social Work as a CE Provider. Determination of exact number of credits is pending.

Minnesota Board of Executives for Long-Term Services and Supports (BELTSS)
The Minnesota Board of Executives for Long-Term Services and Supports (BELTSS) has approved this activity for up to 9.75 hours of continuing education. 

Other Healthcare Professionals
Other healthcare professionals who participate in this CE activity may submit their statement of participation to their appropriate accrediting organizations or state boards for consideration of credit. The participant is responsible for determining whether this activity meets the requirements for acceptable continuing education.

Cancellation Policy
If you need to cancel your registration, the registration fee, less a $15 administrative fee, will be refunded if we receive your cancellation request by November 3, 2021.  No refunds will be made after that.  No refunds are available to those who register for the Ageism Lecture only.

UMN Office of Continuing Professional Development (OCPD) and/or our partner in providing the activity reserves the right to cancel any activity due to unforeseen circumstances. In the event the activity is cancelled, registration fees will be refunded.
