Overview

Format: Live webinar

Hypertension is the number one chronic disease risk factor in the world and is the most common reason for office visits and use of chronic prescription medications. Despite the known cardiovascular complications caused by hypertension, almost half of all people with hypertension do not have their blood pressure controlled. New evidence-based guidelines recommend new thresholds and targets for the diagnosis and treatment of hypertension. A new aspect of the guidelines is the recommendation for measurement of out-of-office BP to confirm the diagnosis of hypertension and guide therapy. This forum will review the newest evidence-based guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of hypertension. Recommendations for accurate BP measurement in the office, at home, and with ambulatory BP monitoring will be discussed. Current recommendations for treatment targets will be presented based on the recently published final report of the SPRINT trial of intensive versus standard blood-pressure control.

Speaker: Paul Drawz, MD, Associate Professor of Medicine, University of Minnesota Medical School

Moderator: Mark Rosenberg MD, Vice Dean for Education and Academic Affairs, University of Minnesota Medical School
