Format: Self-paced online

About this course:
This course is provided by the Department of Medicine, Global Medicine as an online course in Canvas. This course prepares physicians and other health care providers to care for people traveling to (or living in) developing countries and other settings where resources are limited. If you have questions or need support during the course contact [email protected]. 

Once enrolled in the course, complete all elements of the Canvas course including: the pre-test, modules, supplemental bonus material (optional, not required for completion of the course) and post-test. Be sure to complete the course evaluation form; this is required to receive the available CE credit and/or a Certificate of Completion.

Upon submission of your evaluation, you will have an opportunity to print a copy of your Certificate when it appears on your screen. The Office of Continuing Professional Development (OCPD) will also record your completion in CE Portal. You will use your email address to access your account in CE Portal. Allow one month for your transcript in CE Portal to be updated; contact [email protected] if you have questions or need assistance accessing CE Portal. CE Portal is not connected to any other University or Fairview systems and if you have not previously accessed your CE Portal account, select Forgot Your Password on the Sign In screen to set your password.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, learners should be able to:

  1. Provide pre-travel advice and care for patients planning to travel to developing countries.
  2. Diagnose and treat individuals who become ill during overseas travel or residence.
  3. Provide post-travel evaluation and care for patients returning from travel to developing countries.
  4. Diagnose and treat individuals living in the tropics and sub-tropics who are ill.

In support of improving patient care, University of Minnesota, Interprofessional Continuing Education is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
