Overview

Format: This is an in-person course.

Preventing, controlling and treating emerging infections continue to be an essential focus for clinicians, infection control and public health practitioners, and laboratorians. The 2023 conference will include reflections on the COVID-19 pandemic, discuss the new RSV vaccines and treatments, cover antibiotic resistance in Candida auris and discuss the emerging field of phage therapy for antibiotic resistant infections. This continuing education conference in its 29th year, provides a forum for authoritative presentations and discussions on the epidemiology, prevention and control of emerging infectious diseases.

Featuring Keynote Speaker: Anne Schuchat, MD, former Deputy Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

This activity is planned and hosted by the University of Minnesota Department of Medicine in collaboration with the Minnesota Department of Health and Mayo Clinic.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, learners should be able to:

  1. Reflect on the COVID-19 pandemic and understand the public health perspective.
  2. Outline how to use the new RSV vaccines and treatment options.
  3. Review new knowledge about antibiotic resistance in Candida auris to help consider choosing treatment options.
  4. Describe phage therapy and its potential clinical applications.

Registration

Early Registration Rates - through October 20, 2023 / Standard Registration Rates - On or after October 21, 2023

Physicians $155 early/$205 standard
Other Healthcare Professionals $125 early/$175 standard
Retired Physician $110 early/$155 standard

U of M/M Health, Mayo & MDH:
Full-time Faculty $125 early/$175 standard
Adjunct Faculty $75 early/$125 standard
Other Healthcare Professional $75 early/$125 standard
Resident/Fellow $10 early/$30 standard

On-site registration will be allowed as space permits. All on-site registrants must use their own device to submit their registration and payment by credit card via CE Portal (cash/check not accepted). Registration through CE Portal is required even if attendance is free-of-charge. Special needs, such as dietary restrictions, lactation room, etc., should be requested in advance. These requests cannot always be honored on site.

Cancellation Policy
In the event you need to cancel your registration, the registration fee, less a $50 administrative fee, will be refunded if you notify us by 4:30 p.m. Central Time on November 3, 2023. No refunds will be made after this date.

Prioritizing the health and safety of all attendees is essential, and masks are a crucial tool in reducing the potential spread of respiratory illnesses, including COVID-19. All attendees are encouraged to collectively contribute to a safe and enjoyable conference experience by wearing a mask.

In support of improving patient care, University of Minnesota, Interprofessional Continuing Education is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science
