Overview

The MAGIC conference annually convenes clinicians in geriatrics to explore a wide range of topic including: Alzheimer's disease/dementia, THC/CBD, deprescribing, antipsychotic use, BEERS criteria, STOPP/START criteria, managing anxiety, delirium, behaviors (both pharmacological and non-pharmacological), MN Medication Repository Program, and other topics related to pharmacological interventions. In 2025 we will specifically focus on behavioral and mental health.

This course is planned and organized by the Minnesota Association of Geriatric Inspired Clinicians (MAGIC). For more information contact Heidi Holste or Robin Ronayne or visit MAGIC's webpage here.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, learners should be able to:

  1. Describe how to apply appropriate evaluation tools and criteria to diagnose depression, anxiety and substance use disorders in older adults
  2. Review patient-centered plans to address conditions for older adults accounting for multimorbidity, frailty, and cognitive concerns
  3. Outline how to address challenges that may be faced in various settings such as home care, ALF, or skilled nursing facility (including regulatory requirements in the SNF setting).
  4. Describe interdisciplinary team care approaches to develop and implement treatments plan for older adults with mental health concerns
