The Clinical Pathology Case Conference/Journal Club consists of presentation of former or current patients seen at the University or in local hospitals who present with unusual or unidentifiable complaints which are then referred to the Department faculty/trainees for further review and for follow up on diagnosis. The patients are presented (fully blinded) and a view of the differential diagnosis and further testing is identified and explained in a group setting. The Journal Club is a review of research material published identifying issues with past or current research and diagnosis. The study material presented along with methods is discussed and then the trainee discusses its relevance to the University and its laboratory methods and procedures.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, learners should be able to:

  1. Discuss and analyze patient cases with the healthcare team.
  2. Develop strategies and a team approach to prevent complications from medical procedures.
  3. Identify practice related quality and safety issues.

The Journal Club is a review of research material published identifying issues with past or current research and diagnosis.
