Overview

This workshop is intended for primary care providers who care for children and adolescents and are in a teaching role.  Topics covered include early childhood behavioral concerns, suicidal thoughts and community resources for mental health.

Attendees will gain knowledge and skills to help them be more confident in caring for common pediatric mental health concerns and will also be able to connect with other primary care providers who are in teaching roles to share best practices. 


Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, learners should be able to:

  1. Identify common early childhood behavioral and developmental concerns, including sleep and feeding issues.
  2. Explain appropriate home-based interventions and referral processes for young children with developmental delays.
  3. Determine appropriate levels of care for pediatric patients presenting with suicidal ideation or self-harm behaviors.
  4. Describe strategies for triaging and managing mental health crises in the outpatient pediatric primary care setting.
  5. List community and financial support resources available to assist families with pediatric mental health concerns.

American Board of Pediatrics Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Part II

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the activity, with individual assessments of the participant and feedback to the participant, enables the participant to earn 2.75 MOC points in the American Board of Pediatrics’ (ABP) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABP MOC credit.

Other Healthcare Professionals

Other healthcare professionals who participate in this CE activity may submit their certificate of participation to their appropriate accrediting organizations or state boards for consideration of credit. The participant is responsible for determining whether this activity meets the requirements for acceptable continuing education.
