This activity is planned and hosted by the University of Minnesota Department of Pediatrics. For more information please contact Emily Kukacka at [email protected]. 

The Adoption Medicine Clinic (AMC) Symposium, Helping Children Thrive: A Multidisciplinary Approach to Evaluating Children Adopted or in Foster Care is a 1-day educational conference for social workers, physicians, psychologist, behavioral therapists, occupational therapists, and families to learn about the AMC's research, practices and advocacy in the area of international and domestic adoption, foster care and kinship care. Through focused and collaborative sessions, attendees will learn about the power of the AMC's team approach in comprehensive evaluation of children seen at the clinic, partnerships with school based services, practices of developmental pediatricians working with children who have experienced adverse events and trauma, mental health screening protocols for school ages children and more. This year's conference will have a primary focus on school age children.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, learners should be able to:

  1. Describe the components of the CCWA (Comprehensive Child Wellbeing Assessment)
  2. Identify common issues associated with prenatal drug and alcohol exposures
  3. Describe the role of the Developmental Behavioral Pediatrician in consultation
  4. Identify the components of the psychology screening for school age children at the AMC

In support of improving patient care, University of Minnesota, Interprofessional Continuing Education is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Credit Designation Statements

American Medical Association (AMA)
The University of Minnesota, Interprofessional Continuing Education designates this live activity for a maximum of 4.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
This activity is awarded up to 4.25 ANCC contact hours.

Minnesota Board of Social Work
The University of Minnesota Office of Continuing Professional Development has been approved by the Minnesota Board of Social Work as a CE Provider. This activity is offered for up to 4.25 continuing education hours.            

Minnesota Board of Psychology
This activity has been approved by the Minnesota Board of Psychology for up to 4.5 CEs. 

Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy (LPC/LPCC and LADC)
The Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy has approved this course for up to 4.25 continuing education clock hours for LPCs/LPCCs and LADCs.

American Board of Pediatrics Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Part II
Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the activity, with individual assessments of the participant and feedback to the participant, enables the participant to earn  4.25 MOC points in the American Board of Pediatrics’ (ABP) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABP MOC credit.

Other Healthcare Professionals
Other healthcare professionals who participate in this CE activity may submit their statement of participation to their appropriate accrediting organizations or state boards for consideration of credit. The participant is responsible for determining whether this activity meets the requirements for acceptable continuing education.
